Tottenham Hotspur’s first game of the new year was certainly not one to remember as the team succumbed to a frustrating loss away to Southampton on Wednesday.
After the 2-2 draw against Norwich City over the weekend, Spurs knew a proper response was needed in another clash with a team looking to avoid relegation.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho decided to start Lucas Moura against the Saints, but the Brazilian star was not unable to make an impact on the day in what was another dull show at the St. Mary’s stadium.
After going 1-0 behind, the away side never really looked likely to pull themselves back into the game with a Harry Kane goal which was ruled out for offside, being one of the few notable moments from the attacking unit.
After witnessing Moura’s performance against Southampton, some Spurs fans were quick to question the fact that the Brazilian was picked to play in the first place.
Lucas Moura is absolutely useless when he starts #SOUTOT #THFC

Can't see why we play Moura game in game out #THFC

I can’t believe anyone ever asks the question about whether Lucas Moura should start or not. Watch this game. He should never, ever be anywhere near the starting 11. Sub him for Lamela now. #THFC #COYS

Your weekly reminder that Lucas Moura isn't good. It doesn't matter how many times you watch the highlights from that Ajax game, he's still a winger that can't play on the wing, doesn't create anything and gives away possession repeatedly. #COYS #THFC #SOUTOT

Lucas Moura isn’t very good is he.

This spurs team has actually not changed at all. We've just adopted a less attractive style of football, dropped Danny rose and brought in the useless Lucas moura…#THFC
