Alderweireld makes a claim about Tottenham fans

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has spoken about the contribution which the club’s faithful have made as the team looks to finish off the season successfully.

Spurs were involved in the title race at the start of this calendar year but a wobble in February and March saw the boys leave the challenge for the league crown in the hands of Manchester City and Liverpool.

With only a few games remaining in the league campaign, all that is left to play for is a place in the top four of the Premier League.

Brighton proved to be a troublesome side on their trip to Spurs’ new stadium on Tuesday as they defended manfully for much of the game.

After throwing everything at the opposition, Christian Eriksen scored a late goal to hand the three points to the home side.

After the full time whistle, Toby Alderweireld claimed that the fans were a major help on the road to victory.

The defender has praised the Tottenham faithful for their level of support in the new stadium.

“You could see the time ticking away but we have the players to make the difference,” he told the club’s official website

“At this stadium, the crowd gets behind us, it always helps and I hope the fans know that when they cheer and make a lot of noise, it helps us to get over the line to get the three points.”
