‘It’s the worst draw for them’ – Man City will fear facing Spurs, says ex-City man

Former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has sent a warning to his old club ahead of their meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Even though Tottenham have faced their obstacles in recent weeks, the club is still in a favourable position to finish the season with much pride, especially after the opening of the new stadium last Wednesday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men did very well to see off Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 of the Champions League and the reward for that feat is a tie against Premier League foes Manchester City.

As you would expect, many have labelled Pep Guardiola’s side as the favourites for the tie which kicks off on Tuesday.

But former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce insists the Premier League champions have every reason to be fearful of Pochettino’s side.

It was after all at this stage that Liverpool knocked City out of Europe last season.

“It’ll be a fantastic game. I think it’s the worst possible draw for City at this stage in the competition.” he told Talk Sport Radio

“I’m not sure Tottenham will be too enamoured by it either. But I think it’s going to be a very tight game.

“Tottenham have got to be in the game after the first leg. If they can take an advantage to go away from home, or stop City from scoring, then there’s always pressure on City being the home side [for the] second-leg.”
