Tottenham Hotspur approached their Premier League rivals over the signing of two experienced attacking players, based on a report by Manchester Evening News.
Spurs remarkably finished the summer transfer window as the only club in the top flight who failed to complete the addition of a new player.
Despite the success in signing players though, it also widely believed that the club made a few attempts to recruit some targets who failed to arrive in the end.
Manchester Evening News’ report states that the club actually approached rivals Manchester United over the potential signing of Juan Mata and Anthony Martial during the summer.
Toby Alderiweirld was often linked with a move to Old Trafford, even while he was on duty with Belgium at the World Cup, but it appears as though Spurs were also keen on recruiting United’s own players in return ahead of the start of the new season.
