Spurs make offer to sign £35m star as Pochettino speaks with player

Based on reports, Tottenham are looking to recruit Espanyol centre-back David Lopez to bolster the defence for next season.

Spurs will potentially be in need of a new centre-back, with the future of Toby Alderweireld still undetermined as rumours of a possible move to Premier League rivals Manchester United continue to spread.

Incidentally, Spanish outlet Pericos Online is reporting that Tottenham – along with Newcastle – have tabled offers for experienced centre-back Lopez.

Mauricio Pochettino has also reportedly contacted the 28-year-old personally about a switch to north London this summer.

Lopez featured in 37 of Espanyol’s 38 league games last season as he helped the La Liga side clinch a mid-table finish with 12 clean-sheets during the campaign.

The Spanish defender has a £35 million release clause in his contract and Espaynol are believed to be keen on selling him this summer.

Pochettino, who has worked for Espanyol as a player and manager in the past, does have connections with the La Liga club which could help secure a transfer deal.
