Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have registered an interest in signing Brazilian attacker Bernard this summer, based on a report by the Guardian.
Daniel Levy has maintained the club’s tight-spending policy this summer as fans continue to wait for the first new signing before the transfer window closes later this week.
But it appears as though the club has been making an effort to sign players even though there has been no success thus far.
The Guardian’s report claims that Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Bernard was being chased by Tottenham this summer.
However, the Brazilian’s astronomical demand of £200,000-a-week wages saw Spurs pull out of their move for the 25-year-old.
Bernard is now closing in on a transfer to fellow Premier League club Everton, who are seemingly not afraid to splash the cash.
Had Bernard joined Tottenham on those wages, he would have been up there with Harry Kane as one of the highest-paid players at the club.
