‘Absolutely not the answer’: Nicol says Spurs’ potential signing will be a flop

ESPN pundit and former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has given his controversial opinion on Tottenham Hotspur target Giovani Lo Celso.

The South American star is tipped to be on his way out of Real Betis this summer, even though he only recently completed a permanent move to the Spanish side after a successful loan spell.

Mousa Dembele has left a void in the Tottenham squad which will have to be filled if the club has any aspirations of challenging for the Premier League title next season.

Daniel Levy has often been reluctant to open up the cheque book but the club chairman appears to be keen on a move for Lo Celso.

In fact, a report from BBC and much of the British media on Tuesday claimed that an offer had been made to sign the midfielder.

However, for ESPN pundit Steve Nicol, Lo Celso is actually not unlikely to be a hit in the Premier League if he makes the move.

“This guy’s a nice player to watch. He’s got a nice left foot, he plays some nice passes, he scores some nice goals. But this guy is not cut out for the Premier League,” Nicol told ESPN

“Physically and mentally, I don’t see how he’s tough enough or strong enough to play a (single) season. He is absolutely not the answer in the middle of the field.”
