The CEO of Dutch side Ajax, who were recently knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, has revealed where their star player and Spurs target Matthijs de Ligt is expected to be next season.
The Eredivisie outfit has won many plaudits this seaaon for their philosophy, which has been rewarded with a league title almost being won in Holland and a semifinal berth in the Champions League.
Tottenham Hotspur were of course the club to end Ajax’s dreams of winning the European crown this season as Lucas Moura scored an absolutely stunning hattrick in Amsterdam last Wednesday.
The young Dutch team was captained by De Ligt, who is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world already at the tender age of 19.
Having been linked with several clubs including Tottenham, the youngster is expected to leave Ajax this summer and the club’s CEO Edwin Van de Sar has even admitted it.
In an interview with Sky Italia, the former Manchester United goalkeeper said, “I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax. But I hope he goes out on a high.
“He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club. I think he’ll go to England or Spain.”
