John Barnes delivers honest verdict on Tottenham vs Liverpool CL final

John Barnes has revealed his verdict on the Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool at the start of next month, while speaking to the Sport Review, ahead of the big showdown between the two Premier League clubs in Madrid.

Spurs were the team to knock out favourites Manchester City in the quarterfinal of the competition before staging a stunning comeback in Amsterdam to see off Ajax, despite being 3-0 down on aggregate during the half-time break of the second leg.

Tottenham will be looking to win the Champions League for the first time when they face Liverpool in what has become a much-anticipated affair between the two English sides next month.

Spurs did fail to beat Jurgen Klopp’s side on the two occasions that the teams met this season but former Liverpool player John Barnes believes it will be a tight affair nonetheless.

“They are two good teams who are equally as capable. We beat them twice this season but the 2-1 victory at home we were very fortunate to beat them.” Barnes said

“Tottenham know about us and they are strong and physical. I don’t necessarily make anybody favourites. Anything can happen and I hope we can do it.”

The last time Spurs met the Reds this season was at Anfield as an own-goal separated the two sides in an entertaining match.
