Juventus weighing up £25m move to sign Spurs defender

Italian champions Juventus are weighing up a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, based on a report by the Mirror.

The Belgium international was seriously linked with a departure last summer, during a period when Premier League rivals Manchester United were searching for quality defenders to add to their squad.

Even though Alderweireld was able to sign a one-year extension to his Spurs contract, the new deal contained a clause which allows him to leave if an offer of £25 million is made for his services.

According to the Mirror’s report, Juventus have recognized the opportunity of the defender being available for an affordable price and the Italian side is weighing up a move to sign him.

With Davinson Sanchez having another year of Premier League experience under his belt, the Colombian can be considered as a good candidate to replace Alderweireld if the Belgium star chooses to leave the club this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino has rotated his defensive options wisely this season, and even though that means the manager might not know his strongest partnership at the back, the rotation of players has escaped Spurs from relying on a single player the way Liverpool for instance, rely on Virgil van Dijk.
