Pochettino claims £142m duo is the reason Liverpool are expected to win the UCL

Mauricio Pochettino has explained the reason why he believes Liverpool will be expected to win the clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the UEFA Champions League on Saturday.

Spurs were in serious danger of exiting the tournament very early on as Inter Milan squandered a chance to finish as runners-up to Barcelona in the group.

Following the dramatic turnaround to qualify for the first knock-out round, Tottenham thrashed Borussia Dortmund to secure a clash with Manchester City in the quarterfinal of the competition.

That is where belief really set in about Spurs potentially making it to the final as they defeated Pep Guardiola’s team on away goals before repeating that feat against Ajax in the semifinal.

Tottenham have a threat of their own but manager Mauricio Pochettino claims the fact that Liverpool spent heavily in the transfer market last summer means they are the favourites for Saturday’s final.

“It is essential to know what our objective is…our plan was not to win the Champions League even if it sounds hard, our plan was to finish the stadium,” Pochettino told Cadena Ser, as quoted by Diario AS.

“The final? Liverpool are the favourites because they have invested a lot of money, they have signed a goalkeeper and a £75million defender. Liverpool’s plan is to win the Champions League and Premier League. Tottenham’s plan is to make the best season in history.

“We are enjoying the journey a lot, it helps that the preparation plan is three weeks from the end of the Premier League, because the players have bought into the plan and the ideas.”
