Pochettino warns of ‘painful’ rebuild ahead of summer transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken very honestly about what is in store this summer if the club has any intentions to rebuild its squad and reach a higher level ahead of next season.

The former Southampton boss has been absolutely magnificent ever since he completed his move to north London nearly half a decade ago.

Tottenham did have ambitions of being a Champions League club prior to the arrival of Pochettino and they did make into Europe’s elite club competition under Harry Redknapp.

However, it has only been under the stewardship of Pochettino that Tottenham have become a regular name in the competition, having reached the semifinals this season.

The Spurs boss has accomplished all of that without much money being made available to spend by Daniel Levy.

However, Pochettino has moved to indirectly send out a warning that the squad will need more investment if a successful rebuilding is to happen.

“When you talk about Tottenham, everyone says you have an amazing house but you need to put in the furniture.” Pochettino said, as per the Evening Standard

“If you want to have a lovely house maybe you need better furniture. And it depends on your budget if you are going to spend money. We need to be respectful with teams like Manchester City or Liverpool who spend a lot of money. We are brave, we are clever, we are creative.

“Now it’s about creating another chapter and to have the clear idea of how we are going to build that new project. We need to rebuild. It’s going to be painful.”
