Spurs eying approach to sign £31m defender who played in World Cup final

Tottenham are still eying a deal to sign Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard, based on a report by the Mirror.

Pavard was one of the first names on the team sheet for a French side which defeated Croatia to be crowned the new world champions.

Incidentally, Tottenham have already made an approach to sign the 22-year-old who is now likely to be on the radar of several clubs after that show.

Stuttgart are reluctant to sell, insisting that Pavard – who has a ££31million buy-out clause – is currently not available for sale.

The Frenchman is a versatile defender who is capable of playing in the middle of the back-line or at full-back where he is shining for France in Russia.

After Kyle Walker’s decision to join Manchester City last summer, Mauricio Pochettino moved to sign Serge Aurier, but the Ivorian is yet to cement a regular spot in the first team.
