Tottenham move to sign £14.5m star has new development

Tottenham’s bid to make Wilmar Barrios one of their new signings in the summer transfer window has suffered a major blow this week, based on reports.

Barrios’ current release clause stands at £14.5 million and that price makes him a more attractive signing than Barcelona’s Andre Gomez who is also on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar.

The Sun claims that Spurs have been alerted by Barrios’ affordable release clause, but Boca are now prepared to offer the player an extension to his current contract, in order to avoid a deal with Tottenham.

The Argentine side want Barrios to remain with them until the end of their campaign in December at least, in order to challenge for the Copa Libertadores which resumes in August with the knock-out round fixtures.

If the 24-year-old joins Spurs, he would team up with his national teammate, Davinson Sanchez, who is also present at the World Cup for the South Americans.
