What 23-year-old attacker has revealed about his failed Tottenham transfer

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish chose to lift the lid on the failed move to Tottenham Hotspur from last summer, after his side’s win over Derby County in the Championship play-off final.

Even though Spurs were not able to sign any players after last summer’s transfer window was closed, there was no question about the fact that the club came within touching distance of at least one deal for a new signing.

For much of the summer, Mauricio Pochettino was linked with a move to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, a player who appeared to be too talented to be plying his trade in the second division.

At one point, the 23-year-old seemed to be bound for a switch to north London, with a £25million move ahead of the start of the 2018/19 season deemed likely.

However, the young attacker ended up signing a new contract to remain at Villa Park and after winning promotion back to Premier League with his side, Grealish has revealed how close he came to completing that move to Spurs.

The Englishman has admitted that around August last year, his exit from Villa looked almost certain to happen.

“At that game [Hull in August] I thought I was going and ten months later I’m here and have led my boyhood club to the Premier League as captain, scored against Blues twice, the perfect season,” he said, as per Football.London
